The January Bradford Board of Education meeting began with the recognition of the students of the month. Maggie Rouse, Mark Painter and Todd Reay were all congratulated by the board.
Wells Fargo representative Doug Laz reviewed the districts past history of health insurance coverage and costs. He went over possible changes that may affect the insurance coverage with the new federal insurance law.
ID Event Well Received The IL Chip ID event was held on January 15 with 61 students participating. The children were fingerprinted, had DNA samples taken, were photographed and interviewed on CD for easy media distribution. The event sponsored by the Bradford and Wyoming Masonic Lodges was very well received.
Cox headed to prison

Paul Simon Cox, 41, recently of Toulon and formerly of Wyoming, has been sentenced by Circuit Judge Scott Shore to three one year consecutive terms in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).
In a plea deal with States Attorney James Owens, Cox pled guilty to charges of a May 18, 2012 domestic battery stemming from an incident involving his then wife Jodi Bauer-Cox. The couple has since divorced.
Cox also pled guilty to an August 5, 2012 violation of an order of protection when found in the presence of Bauer-Cox. Last September 22, the charge of driving on a revoked license while D.U.I., with associated accidental injury occurred.
Cox drove Bauer-Cox’s pick-up truck through the Casey’s in Toulon, where he drove into David Pyle’s vehicle with Pyle inside. The impact was so severe, it pushed Pyle’s car over a concrete barrier ledge injuring Pyle in the process.
Rebels pick up three wins

The Stark County Rebels have three more wins after defeating West Prairie, West Central and Midland this past week.
Last Tuesday the Rebels battled hard, but were able to build a little third quarter cushion for a 65-55 win.
Tanner King had 11 of the Rebels’ 13 first quarter points. Then, Jake Berchtold went to work adding 16 in the second half to finish as leading scorer with 20. Bryce Willis followed with 13.
Friday night the team traveled to Biggsville where they defeated West Central 67-63 to improve to 4-0 in the LTC.
Mayor appoints fourth Toulon police chief in four years

For the fourth time in as many years, Toulon has a new Chief of Police. Mark Olszewski was appointed Monday by Mayor Rick Collins to replace Doug Richards as the newest City Police Chief.
The City council unanimously approved the appointment of Olszewski without discussion and solely upon Collins’ recommendation alone. Richards has been reassigned “as a patrolman who will do several shifts a week,” according to Collins.
“Doug just didn’t have the time to be Chief,” Collins stated. One day, was the last The News had knowledge of Richards actually working while Chief. “I talked with him and he understands,” Collins explained to the council.
Wyoming Council holds short January meeting

In a meeting lasting only about 20 minutes, the Wyoming City Council heard from Engineer Judd Giffin that the proposed offer to ICCI had been accepted. The work on the sidewalk on the west side of North Seventh Street had flaws in the finish. Giffin reported that the street project finished under budget.
City Attorney Bruce Fehrenbacher reported on the court date that was coming up for the Pin Oak Apartments. Fehrenbacher has filed a motion for summary judgment on the case involving past due water bills on the apartments.
