LaFayette searches for funding
Written by Amy Beaver
Wednesday, 06 January 2010 14:26
lafayetteThe Village of LaFayette is searching for some means to repaint the water tower. It is a project that trustees have been looking at for a few years, but the funding just isn’t available.
The water tower was originally covered with lead-based paint so the painting becomes a little more complicated, and expensive; somewhere in the neighboorhood of $150,000.
“This tower really is in bad shape,” said trustee Greg Bartley.  “We need to concentrate on a solution.”
The other trustees concurred.  The engineering firm of Bruener, Cooper and Zook made an inspection of the water tower in March and the tower is deteriorating faster than the trustees expected.

schoolIllini Bluffs (11-3) came to Wyoming Monday, December 21 and went away with a victory, thanks to a troubled 4th quarter by the Lady Rebels (5-4).  Illini Bluffs pulled off a 51-46 victory.
The Lady Rebels jumped out on top first.  They held a 20-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by Brittney Price’s 8 points, and Jenna Nowlan’s 6 in the first quarter.
Illini Bluffs would answer, outscoring Stark County 22-10 in the second quarter.  Illini Bluffs would take a 36-30 lead into half-time.
Illini Bluffs came out from half-time dull, only scoring 4 points in the 3rd quarter, giving the lead back to Stark County.  The Lady Rebels couldn’t capitalize as they only scored 4 points themselves in the 4th quarter.  This led to Illini Bluffs grabbing the win.
Brittney Price led the Lady Rebels with 16 points and Natalie Turner pitched in 13 points.

Written by Amy Beaver

kolditzOff the Track Bar and Grill closed its doors for good on December 27. For Barb and Dave Kolditz, the owners of Off the Track, the closing was a planned event and they are looking forward to the future.
“We’re looking to stay in town,” said Dave.  “We’ll rent for a while and look for a house.”   The Kolditz’s moved into the upstairs area of the building which houses Off the Track from Peoria seven years ago.
“Our first day of business was December 28 of 2002,” said Dave. “Barb was the main worker.”
Closing the business, even though planned, created mixed feelings in both Barb and Dave.
