Memorial Fund for toddler’s family

Members of the community have come forth to assist the family of Taylor Elizabeth Gunn, age 3, of Wyoming, Illinois, who accidentally drowned on Monday, July 26. Memorials have been set up to assist the family in their time of need. At present memorial funds have been established at Toulon United Methodist Church, 229 W Main, Toulon, IL 61483; State Bank of Toulon, PO Box 609, Toulon, IL 61483; and State Bank of Speer, PO Box 37, Speer, IL 61479. Anyone wishing to contribute should send to those addresses in care of the Taylor Gunn family.

Drowning takes life of Wyoming child

 Almost a week past her third birthday, Taylor E. Gunn died in an accidental drowning in a swimming pool in Wyoming Monday. Authorities had been called that morning to the child’s residence to help look for two missing children, both around the same age. Shortly after they were called to search, Gunn was discovered in a neighboring pool in the 500 block of N. Galena in Wyoming. The child was transported to Kewanee Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Parents of the child are Josh Gunn and Megan Sturtevant of Wyoming.

Strandburg, Pasker and Williams crowned Friday

A large crowd was gathered on a hot, sticky Friday night to watch the 2010 Stark County Fair Queen pageant at the Stark County Junior Fairgrounds in Wyoming, Illinois. Three different groups competed for the titles of Little Miss, Junior Miss and Miss Stark County Fair. The Little Miss contestants showed off their party dress and play wear and were given an opportunity to answer a question, in front of the crowd, for the judges. Retiring Queen Bethany Stapel asked each contestant, “If you were a cartoon character, which one would you be and why?”

School reminds parents about dress code changes

 The Bradford School District will be holding registration for all district students preschool through eighth grade on Thursday, August 5 from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, August 6 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. A few changes in school policy will affect students this year including an increase in lunch prices to $1.25 for K through fifth grade and $1.50 for junior high students sixth through eighth. Breakfast fees remain the same at $.75. Changes for the dress code will be observed for the 2010-2011 school year. Students with two or more dress code infractions will result in a detention every time after the warning.

 New Toulon Police Chief Terry Echols, began his new position last week. Echols has 16 years experience as a police officer and also works part-time at Black Hawk College as part of the Campus Police Department. Echols met with the Toulon City Council to review job duties, description and items to focus on for the first month of his trial period. Echols reported on his start-up plans and submitted names of other officers for possible part-time employment by the city. |
