lafayetteDuring the regular meeting of the LaFayette Village board, President Carl Peve denied the liquor license renewal of Kruizer Bar and Grille in Lafayette, despite an advisory vote by the trusttess in favor of renewal.
“I wanted the board members to vote on the liquor license,” said Peve. “That will take some heat off of me.”
The vote of the village trustee members was split with Fran Piester, Burt Stevens, and Greg Bartley voting yes to renew the license, Florence Preston voting no  and Larry Townsend abstaining.  President Peve stated Ordinance 404 section 5 which states a liquor license can be denied due to bad character.
Bar owners Sarah and Larry Cook were in attendance at the meeting, with support from four members of the community.  There was heated discussion current liquor ordinance will expire on June 28.

Board divided over policy issues
Written by Amy Beaver
Wednesday, 23 June 2010 12:34
schoolThe Stark County School board had two mixed votes over policy issues during their regular board meeting this past Monday.  Several student handbook changes were made and approved by a six to one vote, with Bob Groter the single nay vote.
The discussion of changing the high school handbook language regarding extracurricular programs led to the split vote.  The new policy states that, “in a case where conduct by a player or team participant is so egregious or insubordinate that in the determination of the head coach, that participant’s continued membership on the team or club would cause a debilitating effect on the program, the coach may immediately suspend or dismiss the participant from the team.”

knitoneEnthusiasm for the Toulon Library fundraiser, Knit One, Kill Too, was dampened by the weather this past Saturday, but participants were treated to a plethora of sights, sounds and texture.
“It’s a sensual experience,” said Author Maggie Sefton.
There were many activities to enjoy. The library had historical re-enactors and fiber demonstrators as well as dulcimer tunes by Richard Hartley.  In the Historical Society’s backyard, Rendezvouers were practicing their skills with bow and arrow and hatchet throwing.
