The Stark County Board was visited by new part-time employee of the Workforce Development office, Melinda Downing. Downing helps staff the employment assistance satellite office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from nine to four and on Saturdays from nine to one. This increased the office time from just one day a week from nine until four. “I didn’t realize what a great resource this was until I got into the office and learned what it was all about,” said Downing. “Resume writing, job training as well as resources for employers are all found here.” Mike Bigger, County board Chairman welcomed Downing to the position and expressed his thanks to her efforts to inform the county about Workforce Development’s opportunities.

Several residents from the Musselman subdivison in Toulon attended the recent city council meeting this week to express their continuing fustration over the water issue. “We’ve been coming here for years asking the city to do something,” said one resident. Two excessive rainy seasons have made the problem more acute, with inches of water coming through the storm drains and back into residents’ homes. The problem began when state IDOT workers removed a culvert blockage which was causing water to pour over the state highway. In turn this allowed a great quantity of water through the subdivision.

Several residents were present at the Bradford village board meeting this past Monday. Residents addressed the board on several nuisance conerns in the area as well as asking questions about the TIF funding available. “We want to help businesses that will bring in revenue, but right now we have to look at the funds available,” said council member Kevin Rassmussen. The group was also wanting action on the installation of a night vision camera for the Elsie Hoges Park area. “We’ll make sure to follow through on this,” said the newest council member Corey Moodie. The nuisance letters notifying property owners of violations have been updated and will be sent to several problem areas over the coming week.
