The Toulon City Council approved a motion by a vote of 4 to 2 to move to a part-time police department during a special meeting on May 19. Councilmen Don Turnbull and Larry Hollis voted against the motion. All council members were present. The move to all part-time positions directly affects the current police chief position, which is a full-time position. The change to part time will occur on July 1. The council hopes to save money by having several part-time officers sharing the coverage. The current part-time Toulon patrolman is Doug Richards and the current officer serving in the Police Chief position is Robert Taylor, a 28-year veteran. The City is taking applications for the part-time police chief position.

The Bradford Village Board approved a mayoral appointment to place Corey Moody as alderman to replace the position vacated by Bobbie Walters. Moody will have most of the original four year term to fill. Mayor Adam Wilson stated that he picked Moody over several other recommended candidates because of his youth, his family ties to Bradford and because of his financial experience.
“I think he’ll do a good job for Bradford,” said Wilson. Wilson went on to say that the other recommendations were good choices, but not all were interested in the position. “I believe I made the best choice.”
