Hand-made items crafted with love by women living far away in Haiti have made their way to Bradford for sale. These items come from a home economics training school that gives their students hope as well as a way to earn a living. Centre Lumiere (the center of light) was born in the heart of a German missionary in 1977. Luise Schurer recognized the need for training as well as the need for work. Items such as Christmas tree skirts, pillows (crocheted and embroidered), aprons, kitchen towels, greeting cards, sweaters, embroidered pillow cases, gorgeous purses and numerous other items will be sold at an open house hosted at the Delores Duckworth home, 344 Enterprize Dr., Bradford, Thursday, Nov 19 from noon to 8pm and Friday Nov 20 9am – 5pm. Questions? Call 897-4032. A home industry program was started to provide the graduates and the students with a small income for their livelihood. Sales from this program make the school financially independent. More than 80 women participate in production and take pride in the beauty of their high quality work. The purpose of Centre Lumiere is to fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ in Haiti by contributing to the building and developing of His church in providing training and means for young women to become useful tools for the cause of Christ in their families, churches and communities. Each local purchase goes a long way towards the women of Haiti finding a way to make ends meet in an economic poor situation. Their work is the primary source of income for their family. Purchase a beautiful unique special Christmas gift for a friend or loved one, and make a difference in more ways than you might think. The true Christmas spirit. |
