The Bradford board approved the resignation of a second board member, Bobbie Walters, during a special meeting held January 12. Walter’s resignation letter cited unethical procedures as the reason for her resignation. Board members accepted the resignation as effective January 4 of 2010. Mayor Adam Wilson asked a nominating committee to approve a candidate by the April meeting. The position has three years left on its term.During the special meeting, the board also approved the purchase of a 100 KW generator for $4,500. This would take care of the well during power outages. The board also discussed the establishment of a warming center and will approach the Bradford School board during their regular January meeting. Further discussions on the warming center are ongoing with the school district. During the February 1 meeting, the board approved an expenditure of up to $6,000 to replace the sign at Elsie Hodges Park with an LED lighted sign as part of an Eagle Scout project by Nate Horrie. Horrie presented a plan to the board. The sign will be surrounded by brick and feature memorial engraved single bricks. Horrie will seek donations to pay for the sign as well as selling the memorial bricks to help pay for the cost of construction. The total cost of the project is $7,500. Final approval of the project will be determined by the Eagle Scout board before any monies are paid. The board agreed to place salt and cinders on the Bradford Post Office parking lot and alley for $25 per an on call basis. The board approved entering into a two-year agreement with Ameren Energy to provide power for the city. The village board hopes to save additional fees through this agreement. The board approved a change to the liquor hours. Currently, proprietors can sell liquor from 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday; from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 1 p.m. to midnight on Sunday. The hours will change on Sunday from 1p.m. to noon. Another change is to provide a temporary liquor license for special events at a cost of $30 for businesses and $0 for not-for-profit events, such as the Rescue Squad’s Hog Roast. This temporary license is for extended hours beyond regular license and must be applied for two weeks in advance of the event. The board discussed the organization of a Businessman’s Association. The association will meet during the last Saturday of the month and collect annual fees of $25. The next meeting is scheduled on February 27. The next regular village board meeting will be on March 1 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center in Bradford. |
