The Stark County Rebels are starting to hit their stride at the right time. The boys hosted Princeville Tuesday, Jan. 26th. The Rebels won 48-37. Calvin Lewis led the way for the Rebels with 16 points, while Dillon Kelly also added in 10. The Rebels shot very well from the free throw line making 13 out of 14 attempts. The real test for the Rebels came Friday night as they traveled to Aledo to take on Mercer County. The LTC tournament is this week for the boys, and Stark County received the 2 seed while Mercer County received the 1 seed, despite both teams being undefeated. This game could be a possible preview of the championship game in the tournament, and let’s hope it is, because Stark County won 64-59. Although the final was only a 5-point victory for the Rebels, they were in control most of the game. The Rebels used their size to their advantage by pounding the ball inside, and never letting up. The Rebels were led by Calvin Lewis who had a monster game scoring 27 points making 10 field goals and going 7 of 7 from the free throw line. Ethan Ely had a big game with 18 points and Dillon Kelly also had 12. Stark County took a ten point lead into the 4th quarter, but Mercer County tried making a comeback. However, Stark County’s ability to make free throws helped seal the victory keeping the Rebels undefeated in conference play 4-0 and 10-8 overall. LTC tournament results from the Rebels’ second round matchup this past Tuesday night versus United can be found online at countyenews.com |
