wyomingLast Saturday night, the Wyoming Area Chamber of Commerce held it’s annual Chamber Banquet.  The event was held at St. Dominic’s Parish Hall with Joni Kinsella and Jackie Hampton hosting the event along with a lot of support from The State Bank of Speer and it’s personnel.
The hall was beautifully decorated for this annual and festive event.  Stacy Price and her able and capable staff provided a delicious meal.  Mike Stahl, president of the State Bank of Speer introduced the guest speakers. Gregg Batton and his lovely wife, Yvonne Greer, provided an interesting program.  This couple has vast experience in broadcasting, both in Peoria and Chicago.  Gregg is currently the morning host on WMBD AM radio with the Gregg and Dan show.
Dan Shockey, Chamber President, gave a recap of last year’s chamber achievements and accomplishments, including a successful shared Mushroom Festival, Corn Boil in the park, and the Moonlight Madness events.  These worthwhile events provide funding for the many financial projects the chamber supports for the business community.
Dan also recognized a few people for their efforts to the community.  Those included were Denny Rewerts, for his unsung role in county economic improvements and Keith Ratcliff, for his generous support of the new sound system, acquiring two downtown buildings and the opening of The Rebel Inn pizza business.
The honored recipient was Pete Johnson of Johnson Drugs for his long-term service to the community.  Pete was named The Man of the Hour for his services provided days, nights and on weekends for those in need.  Pete, and his father Joel have served the Wyoming area for years with exceptional service.  He is an avid supporter Wyoming, Stark County and the school system for years via being the football announcer while providing a lot of sports memories through newspaper articles.  Pete and his business truly deserve the honor.  Pete was presented with a drawing depicting his favorite sports things.  We believe this will be on display at the drug store.
