The Stark County Rebels cut down to size the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans on Friday night by a 45-13 final score. The undefeated Rebels move to 4-0 on the season, as A-W falls to a 2-2 record. It was Stark County for the entire game, while holding A-W to minimal opportunities for scoring. In the first quarter the Rebels defense held A-W to successive 3 plays and punts, while S.C.’s offense lit up the scoreboard twice. On the Rebels second possession of the game, Tyler Frisby scored on his 17-yard touchdown run, with the extra point successful. On the Rebels next drive, a 15-yard pass to Dalton Miller kept it alive and two plays later Justin Kohler dashed in 20 yards on a quarterback keeper to score once more. After a blocked extra point attempt, the Rebels lead 13-0 at the 2:25 mark. The Rebels dominated the first quarter as the entire 12 minute playing time was spent in the A-W half of the field.
The second quarter began with Aaron Nunez running for 9 yards, then Kyle Copeland took the ball on a 7-yard run into the end zone for S.C.’s third score. Another failed extra point made the total 19-0 in favor of the Rebels. Annawan-Wethersfield’s first possession of the second period witnessed them achieving their initial first down of the evening, but the Rebel defense shut down A-W’s offense after that point. Stark County took their next possession down the field and scored on Tyler Frisby’s 24-yard run with 6:42 remaining in the half, 26-0. A-W finally scored on their next series of plays to make it a 26-7 ballgame. As an exclamation point, the Rebels scored as time ran out to lead 33-7 at the half.
The third quarter began with SC once again marching down the field to A-W’s 2-yard line where Frisby scored his 4th touchdown to extend the Rebel lead to 39-7. After stopping A-W, the Rebels moved the ball into Titan territory when a fumble occurred. Cody Price of the Rebels covered up the loose ball in the end zone for another touchdown. The Rebels then lead 45-7 as the quarter wound down.
In a repeat of the first three quarters, the fourth quarter saw both teams move the ball on their possessions without scoring until A-W broke through at 9:39 to make the score 45-13. After both sides substituted with approximately five minutes remaining, no more scoring was accomplished by either team. Stark County totaled 415 yards on 309 running and 106 passing, while Annawan-Wethersfield had 95 run yards, 143 pass yards for 238 total.
Next week the Rebels take on the 0-4 West Prairie Cyclones for Homecoming at 7 p.m., then in 2 weeks play against River Valley at 7 p.m. in Varna.
