Principal hired for high school, junior high

The Stark County Board of Education has employed Mr. William Lamb as the new Stark County Junior High and High School principal. Lamb has served as principal at Deer Creek Mackinaw High School since 2003. Prior to that time he served as Dean of Students in East Peoria and as a mathematics teacher in both East Peoria and Franklin Park, Illinois. Lamb received his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University in 1985 and his master’s degree in Educational Administration from Illinois State University in 1997.
Stark County superintendent Jerry Klooster said that with a strong background in curriculum development, Mr. Lamb hopes to utilize his professional experience through the implementation of progressive, data-driven programs for students in the district. Mr. Lamb has worked recently with his current district on Common Core curriculum design, RTI training, and integration of the Danielson Frameworks.
Lamb and his wife hope to relocate from their Peoria home to Stark County as soon as is practicably possible.
Bradford obtains tech items through grant

During the March meeting, Bradford Superintendent Dr. Ellin Lotspeich reported to the School Board that she was able to obtain 24 more iPads, four Smart Boards and four Apple TV set ups through the No Child Left Behind Grant.
The board recognized the eighth grade girls’ basketball team during the meeting. They were conference champions.
State of the District On April 23 Lotspeich will hold a State of the District meeting in the junior high school gym. The event will start at 6 pm and cover financial status, common core information and facility projections for the district.
Lotspeich reported that the process of putting together the district calendar for next year has been started. She met with a teacher committee to get their input. She also said that new volunteer guidelines have been developed for those working with students.
HOPE WEEK at Stark County High School

The Stark County High School student council put together a week long “Hope Week” to raise awareness for all different types of cancer.
The goal was to raise $3,500 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in the process. Through a community dinner, raffles and donations, over $5,300 was raised.
English teacher Mrs. Nolan had agreed to shave her head if the goal was met, and so in an assembly Friday, students did the honor.

The March Stark County School Board meeting started with a Waiver Hearing for Holidays. The hearing was held to accept testimony regarding its intent to seek authority under the school code to hold school on certain holidays, if and when it deems appropriate. No testimony was presented during the hearing. Later in the meeting, the board voted to access the authority outlined in school code regarding authorization for attendance on Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, Casimir Pulaski Day, Columbus Day and Veterans’ Day.
The new school board will be seated at the regular May meeting after discussion regarding the April 9 election. Canvassing of votes from the election may not take place until 21 days after the election.

The January meeting of the Stark County School Board started with a public hearing. The hearing was required by state law to consider having students attend school on Pulaski Day and Lincoln’s Birthday. There were no comments from the public on the issue. The board voted later in the meeting to approve student attendance on those days.
Window Project
Board member Skip Turnbull reported that the building committee had met with the Farnsworth Group to discuss the status of the Junior High window project. Dan Gavin of the Farnsworth Group attended the meeting and gave the board a presentation on putting the project out for bid. The board voted in favor of proceeding with letting bids. Board
member Rob Groter was absent.
Principal Reports
Elementary principal Tessa Samuelsen reported that the teachers and staff went over how the current curriculum aligns with common core. Areas that do not align were found and will be addressed.
