Board hires Wallace for different position

schoolAfter submitting her resignation at the March school board meeting as the Stark County Elementary Principal effective July 1, the board voted, after executive session, to hire Renee Wallace as the District 100 curriculum/technology integration coordinator under a one-year contract beginning July 1, 2012.  Wallace has been the principal at Stark County Elementary for four years and had served as principal for two years at an elementary school in Galesburg before coming to Stark County.
Because the district receives money from the Federal Lunch Program, the government expects the district to work toward charging an amount for lunch at least equal to the amount of reimbursement that the district receives for free lunch students.  Based on a formula provided to the school, the board approved an increase of five cents for each building setting new lunch fees at $1.60 at the Elementary School, $1.85 at the Junior High and $2.10 at the High School.

Parents Club to hold gala dinner-auction

school-edThe Stark County Schools Parents Club is holding a dinner-auction Saturday, April 21 at the Wy-Hi Community Center to raise money to buy iPads (small tablet computers) for the Stark County Elementary School.
The goal is to raise $12,000-$15,000 to pilot use of iPads in one grade level at the school.
The money will purchase 30 iPads plus charging cart, a printer and educational apps (applications).
“We’re really moving toward technology in a good way,” said elementary school Principal Renee Wallace.
By piloting the use of iPads in one class at the elementary level, all the teachers and principal can learn from the experience, said Wallace.
