Stark County Rebels overwhelm Princeville
Written by John A. Ballentine
Wednesday, 08 September 2010 13:41
schoolIn their second game of the season, Stark County High decimated the Princeville Princes, Friday evening to go 2-0 on the year.  The Rebels pounded Princeville 40-6 for the final score.
The first quarter was spent in a chess match between the two teams, until 3:06 remained.  The Rebels’ #59, Dylan Miller, pounced on a S.C. fumble in the end zone to register the night’s first score.  The extra point gave the Rebels a 7-0 lead as the quarter closed.
An explosion of scoring by Stark County during the second quarter began with a 25-yard pass completion, Justin Kohler to Dylan Miller, deep within the Princes’ end of the field.  Tyler Frisby scampered in from the 5-yard line and with a failed extra point, the score was 13-0 at 10:04 on the game clock.

County Watch—Toulon mayor and council
Written by Jim Nowlan
Wednesday, 08 September 2010 13:33
county_watchMy editorial last week about the Toulon mayor and council situation stirred up comment.  Several people stopped me on the street, for example, to have their say.  They all started by thanking me for writing the editorial, as if they felt the difficulties needed to be addressed.  But then each of the citizens criticized me for not coming down harder on the city council.
“They won’t bend,” said one.  The others had similar comments.
Certainly the city council has as much responsibility as the mayor to develop a positive working relationship.  Each has to meet somewhere near the middle, or be persuaded by the strength of the mayor’s arguments, or those of the council.
All the residents of Toulon want is that the mayor and council work together to address our city’s problems, big and small.

Bradford Labor Day weekend
Written by Lynda Newton Dunn
Wednesday, 08 September 2010 13:28
bradfordBradford Labor Day once again thwarted Mother Nature by slipping between wind, chill and rain drops to put an end to summer with a bang up weekend celebration.
I confess it was too cold for me to enjoy the Friday night movie in the park that started off The Little Village That Could’s last holiday of the summer, but the idea and effort is well applauded.
Saturday’s 15th Annual Bradford Gospel Music Fest delivered on their promise of an “All Day Sing” with groups from various points of Illinois, Nebraska and Indiana, feeding both the soul and the body. A bonanza of free entertainment.
Little Miss Bradford’s Beta sponsored pageant handled a chilly night with hot theatre at the grade school, where every fledgling miss of charm and beauty is a winner.  Wonder how closely they check IDs.  Those participating t-shirts were eye catching during the rest of the weekend.
