Driver charged in Henry County accident

On Thursday, March 1, 2012, the Henry County Grand Jury indicted Morgan D. Blakey, 19, of Toulon, for Reckless Homicide and Aggravated D.U.I. as a result of an investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Henry County States Attorney’s Office, into the November 29, 2011, single vehicle crash, which occurred south of Kewanee on 2700E. The crash led to the deaths of three Stark County teenagers.Blakey turned himself in to the Henry County Jail Thursday evening and was being held on $100,000 bond. As of press time he remained in custody.
Reckless Homicide is a Class 3 Felony which if convicted, carries a sentence of 2-5 years; Aggravated D.U.I. is a Class 2 Felony and if convicted carries a sentence of 6 – 28 years. The charge of Driving Under the Influence covers any intoxicating substance. Both offences are eligible for probation.
Blakey appeared in Henry County court on Monday, March 5 where he entered a plea of Not Guilty. He has hired private council to represent him. A pretrial has been set for April 26, 2012 at 1 p.m. in Henry County Court.
