First win April 14
against Kewanee

The Lady Rebels are off to a rough
start in the 2008 season, starting with a 0-11 start. The Lady
Rebels were able to break their losing streak with a 6-5 victory
over Kewanee.
With a renewed sense of hope the young Lady Rebel
team will look to improve on their record and finish the season
out strong.
According to Coach Hippen, “Our young players
are adjusting to high school softball, so were off to a slow start.
Recently, our play has become much better and the girls are starting
to have more confidence in themselves.”
With the leadership of the Lady Rebels three senior
girls, Jenny Leezer, Jennifer Streitmatter, and Amanda Getz, the
Lady Rebels look to be on track and with the pitching help of
Natalie Turner and Taylor Wilkinson, who are both getting better
on the mound with each appearance. The Lady Rebels are looking
for more wins.
The Lady Rebels are a very young team this year
with only 3 seniors, 1 junior, 1 sophomore, and 11 freshmen.
The roster is as follows: Amanda Getz, Jenny Leezer
and Jennifer Streitmatter are returning senior Lady Rebels. The
rest of the team consists of Courtny Gillam, Charissa Ford, Brittany
Eaton, Nicole Fritch, Elizabeth Groter, Cheyenne Mallery, Katilyn
Phillips, Brittany Price, Brittany Schaffer, Christiana Stoner,
Natalie Turner, Taylor Willkinson and Jasmine Wyant.
The Lady Rebels are coached by Jarrod Hippen and
Amy Wise.

Boys take second at Galva Relays

The Stark County Running Rebels placed
second at the Galva Relays.
Seniors David Milroy and Michael Cobb both took first place in
their events. Milroy had 5’8” in the high jump and
Michael Cobb won the long jump. Zach Turner placed second in the
triple jump.
The 400-yard relay team consisting of seniors Michael
Cobb, Conrad Ingels, Zach Turner and freshman Aaron Nunez took
first place. The 800-yard relay team (consisting of the same athletes)
placed second.
The two-mile relay team consisting of seniors Erick Rumbold, Austin
Knobloch, Zach Collins and junior Gregg Rice placed second.
The mile relay team consisting of Zach Turner, Gregg Rice, Austin
Knobloch and Tanner Ewing placed first.
Placing third were Zach Collins in the mile run
and Aaron Nunez in the long jump.
The 320-yard relay high hurdle team consisting David
Milroy, Jeff Robbins, Nick Rumbold and Tanner Ewing placed second.
The 480-yard intermediate hurdle relay team consisting of Tanner
Ewing, Erick Rumbold, Nick Rumbolds and Zach Collins placed second.
The sprint medley team consisting of Conrad Ingels, Michael Cobb,
Erick Rumbold and Aaron Nunez placed third.

Rebel baseball comes up short against
Orion on the road, 8-5

The Stark County Rebels baseball
team nearly picked up a win on the road against Orion on Monday,
April 7. Although they were in the game, the Rebels were plagued
by four errors, which led to four unearned runs in the game.
The Chargers took an early lead with one run
in the bottom of the first inning. The Rebels responded by scoring
three runs to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning.
The teams traded runs in the fourth inning,
but then Orion took the lead with a three-run fifth inning. The
Chargers notched three more runs in the sixth inning, giving themselves
an 8-4 lead heading into the seventh inning.
The Rebels did mount a comeback, but it failed
after one run was scored, making the final score of 8-5.
Jim Code, Seth Elsasser, and Ky Paxson belted
out two hits apiece to account for six of Stark County’s
eight hits in the game. Paxson led the way at the plate with 3
runs batted in.
Jim Harris gave up just three hits over four
innings and allowed just two earned runs. Paxson and Greg Daum
backed up Harris in relief roles. Paxson surrendered two earned
runs in taking the decision. Daum was perfect in one inning of
work with one strikeout.
