Baseball concludes their season in regionals

schoolThe Stark County baseball team’s season has come to an end in regionals. They fell to Ridgewood on Monday night, 10-5.
A whole host of runs in the first inning by Ridgewood proved to be the difference. The visitors posted five runs, followed by three runs in the second.
Stark County didn’t have an answer until the fifth inning, where they scored two, and the last minute rally in the seventh, which resulted in three runs.
Justin Kohler and Evan Webber each had doubles for Stark County. Kohler had two hits, as did Sam Klooster.
Bryce Paxson pitched his eighth decision game, going six innings, and allowing 10 hits, 10 runs, three walks and 10 strike outs.

Baseball splits two games with Galva-Williamsfield

The Stark County Rebels took one win and one loss in the two matchups against Galva-Williamsfield this past week.
Last Tuesday the team hosted G-W and started the hitting off early for the opponent with five runs in the first inning. That was then followed up by three additional runs in the second.
Kodi Cade had two hits and Bryce Paxson and Evan Webber each had a double to help the Rebels’ effort.
Stark County scored two runs in both the fourth and seventh innings, but couldn’t keep up. They took a 13-4 loss.
The Rebels had 11 errors on six hits. Kyle Wagenbach got the loss, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing six hits, 11 runs, four errors and three walks on one strike out. Webber worked 2 2/3 innings on the mound allowing five hits and two runs on two errors, three walks and four strike outs.
Stark County fell again the next day to Monmouth-Roseville at home, 15-10.
Monmouth-Roseville scored in every inning and had 17 hits. Each team had five errors.
Justin Kohler had two hits and Bryce Paxson had four hits.
Cole VanWassenhove pitched his first game. He went 3 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, eight runs, eight errors, three walks and two strike outs. Sam Merrill relieved him and allowed 10 hits, seven runs, six errors, two walks and three strikeouts.
Stark County put a mark in the win column when they rematched Galva-Williamsfield on Thursday. Bryce Paxson pitched a shutout and only allowed two hits, four walks and eight strike outs.
Paxson and Wagenbach each had two hits and doubles.
The win was the team’s sixth of the year and they are now 3-4 in the conference and 6-10 overall.

Boys set two school records

The Stark County boys track team set two new school records at the Monmouth-Roseville meet on April 5.
Calvin Lewis placed first in the shot put and claimed the school record at 50’ 3”.
Tyler Frisby, Brandon Lee, Danny Berchtold and Jake Berchtold then placed second in 800m relay, but still set a school record at 1:38.66.

The team placed third, behind Monmouth-Roseville and ROWVA, but ahead of United.
The girls were at the ROWVA quadrangular meet on April 5. They placed second behind United.

Softball has five wins in five games

The softball team remains undefeated after picking up wins over Peoria Central and Brimfield/Elmwood last week. Saturday’s game at home was cancelled due to the cold weather.
Last Tuesday night at Brimfield/Elmwood was the team’s fourth victory on the season.
Stark County scored two runs in the second inning, taking advantage of two errors by Brimfield/Elmwood and held off a rally in the seventh for a 2-1 victory.
Elizabeth Groter had one hit with three at-bats, as did Danielle Kenney with the addition of an RBI.
Alex Nusz pitched another fantastic game for the Lady Rebels. She went all seven innings, striking out nine batters and allowing no walks.
The next victory came Monday night over Peoria Central where the bats were on fire for the Lady Rebels.
Stark County scored four runs in the first inning, five more in the second, another in the third and eight in the fourth for a huge 18-0 victory after five innings.
Nusz combined with Elizabeth Hippen for a five inning no hitter, walking only one batter each.
Natalie Turner, Kenney, and Mariah Kraft all had doubles for Stark County.
Brittney Price had three hits on four at-bats. Turner led with three RBIs.
The team was in action again Tuesday night with Prophetstown/Erie.
