The nice weather recently has allowed the softball season to get underway as scheduled. With the first couple games usually getting rained out or even snowed out, mid-60’s was certainly welcomed for mid-March.
Stark County hosted Bureau Valley in Wyoming for the first contest of the season.
The Lady Rebels were able to work their way out of runners at second and third in the top of the second, but then allowed three runs in the fourth, two of them on an error (ball overthrown to first).
The Storm of Bureau Valley picked up three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before Stark County had a response.
The Lady Rebels scored 2 RBIs from a Mariah Kraft triple, and one each from Jade Molln and Mary Jo Groter. Altogether, Stark County scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Bureau Valley hung on to their 7-5 advantage in the final inning for the win.
Alex Nusz pitched all seven innings for Stark County, striking out eight batters and walking just one.
The Lady Rebels play again at Spring Valley Hall on Thursday.
