Softball team is regional champs

Stark County defeated Lowpoint-Washburn in their first game of the regionals, 14-4 last Tuesday.
Brittney Price had a two run triple in the first inning as part of a three run opening effort for Stark County.
Danielle Kenney had a two run triple in the second as well, followed by a RBI double by Elizabeth Hippen. After two innings, Stark County led 6-2.
In the third inning, Alex Nusz added a two run RBI triple and in the fifth inning, Price tacked on two more with another RBI.
Finally, Hippen had a single RBI in the last inning for the 14-4 victory.
Nusz pitched all six innings, striking out six runners and walking just one.
On Saturday the Lady Rebels played Midland for the Henry Regional championship.
Stark County was the home team on the board and watched Midland bat first.
The Timberwolves of Midland scored one in the first inning, but Stark County responded with a two run RBI single by Price. Stark County took a 2-1 lead that they never gave up.
In the third inning, with two outs already, Stark County posted back-to-back triples from Natalie Turner and Jasmine Wyant. Wyant added another RBI single in the fifth inning to round out the four total runs for the Lady Rebels.
In a potentially game changing sixth inning, Stark County pitcher Hippen worked out of two runners on base and just one out to keep Midland at just one run still.
Stark County had 11 hits compared to Midland’s four hits. Hippen pitched all seven innings, striking out 10 runners and walking no one.
The team advances to play in the United Sectional on Thursday evening versus Princeville. The game time is 4:30 p.m.
The winner advances to the sectional championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.
