Regionals underway in Wyoming, title game tonight
By Jason Musselman
In the first eight minutes of the final regular season game, the Lady Rebels had just four points – and all of them were from freshman Kelsey Berchtold.
The Lady Tigers from ROWVA held a 7-4 lead after the first quarter, but then the Lady Rebels regained their shooting confidence and began managing the ball better.
The improvements led to a 16 point second quarter, but it wasn’t only the offense that stepped up though. The defense held ROWVA to a single bucket that came late in the half.
Scoring continued for Stark County in the third quarter with 12 points and 15 in the fourth quarter, where two big three pointers from each of the seniors, McKenzie Wages and Sydney Wisnefski, helped seal the deal. Both were recognized prior to the game with their parents as well.
ROWVA rallied slightly in the final minutes of the game, but the damage was done and Stark County celebrated a 47-31 senior night victory.
Berchtold led all scorers with 13 points, followed by both McKenzie Stahl and Wages with eight points.
Wednesday night was the first regional game for Stark County. They faced Ridgewood, a team they defeated in the regular season 54-49, and the winner plays tonight at 7 p.m. in Wyoming for the regional title. We’ll have results online and on Facebook.
The winner of that game will advance to the Bushnell Sectional on Monday at 7:30 p.m. and the sectional championship is Thursday at 7 p.m.
