The 2018 IESA Class A State Track & Field Meet was delayed twice due to rain on Saturday, May 12, but that didn’t stop the Stark County 7th Grade Girls’ 4×400 Meter Relay team from bringing home a State Championship! The Lady Rebels 7th Grade 4×400 Meter Relay team of Lindley Johnston (1st leg), Lilee Roach (2nd leg), Lily Robinson (3rd leg), and Paige Rewerts (anchor) smoked their competition, winning the race with a time of 4:33.99 – nearly 3 seconds ahead of the second place team. The girls also broke their own school record, which they set at the Sectional track meet in Elmwood on May 5. This is only the 2nd time in school history that Stark County has won a State Championship. In 2009, the 8th grade boys 4×100 team of Berchtold, Berchtold, Lee, and Ouart also won 1st at the State Track Meet.

Earlier in the day Saturday, the 7th Grade Girls 4×100 Meter Relay team also made it onto the awards podium, with a 4th place finish time of 56.69. The 4×100 Meter Relay team included Lindley Johnston, Lilee Roach, Paige Rewerts, and Kimora Barnwell.

Also medaling at State this weekend was Blake Orwig in shot put, who threw 42’ 9.25” for a 6th place finish in 8th grade boys competition. Kylee Frisby also medaled in shot put for the 7th grade girls, throwing a distance of 27’ 4.75” for a 7th place finish. Medals are awarded to the top eight finishers in each event.
The Stark County 7th Grade Girls Track Team won 9th place overall out of 70 teams competing at the IESA State meet, with a total of 17 team points. Points are awarded for 1st-8th place finishes in each event.

The Stark County Jr High track team is coached by Jake Lowery, John England, and Kim Becker. The team capped a great season by sending 15 athletes in 12 events to the 2018 IESA State Track & Field Meet held at Eastside Center in East Peoria on Friday May 11 and Saturday May 12. Stark County athletes qualifying to compete at State included:
7th Grade Girls:
4×100 Meter Relay – Lindley Johnston, Lilee Roach, Paige Rewerts, Kimora Barnwell (alternate: Lily Robinson) (Time: 56.69; Finish: 4th Place)

400 Meter Run – Lindley Johnston (Time: 1:06.10; Finish: 13th place)
800 Meter Run – Paige Rewerts (Time: 2.36.55; Finish: 11th place)
Shot Put – Kylee Frisby (Distance 27’ 4.75”; Finish: 7th place)
High Jump – Lindley Johnston (Height: 4’ 6”; Finish: tied for 9th place)

7th Grade Boys:
800 Meter Run – Rilley Bowen (Time: 2:28.81; Finish: 20th place)

8th Grade Girls:
800 Meter Run – Ashley Orrick (Time: 2:38.82; Finish: 16th place)
1600 Meter Run – Ashley Orrick (Time: 5:44.77; Finish: 10th place)

8th Grade Boys:
4×100 Meter Relay – Colby Carroll, Tristan Gerber, James Groter, Ethan Unhold (alternate: Alex Welch) (Time: 50.82; Finish: 21st place)
