Toulon – Robert J. Morse, Sr., 86, of Toulon, Illinois, passed away at 2:05 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018, at UnityPoint Health Methodist in Peoria.
Bob was born on August 2, 1931, in Kewanee, the son of Forrest and Ardis (DeMent) Morse. He married Geneva Riesebieter on January 28, 1955 in Cambridge; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert L. (Sherrie) Morse, Jr., of DuQuoin; two daughters, Pam (Aaron) Wulf and Joyce (Rick) Rumbold, both of LaFayette; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Francis (Sandra) Morse, of Tiskilwa and Edward (Jean) Morse, of Columbia, Missouri; and one sister-in-law, Glenna Morse, of Princeton. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Morse.
Bob graduated from Tiskilwa High School and served in the United States Army in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a farmer for John Armstrong for 16 years and worked construction for Musselman Builders and Chuck Knowles Construction, never officially retiring. He was a volunteer for the Toulon Fire Department for 21 years and served as 1st Assistant Fire Chief for many of those years. Bob loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His funeral service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Toulon. Jim Plattner officiated. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, also at the funeral home. Burial with military honors was in Toulon Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Toulon Fire Department or Stark County Ambulance.
