Wyoming – Ronald Lee “Ronnie” Smith, 74, of Castleton, passed away at 4:22 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019 at OSF St. Luke Medical Center Emergency Department in Kewanee.
Ronnie was born on December 14, 1944 in Peoria the son of Arthur Freeman and Catherine (Lanpher) Smith.
Surviving are four sisters, Shirley (Donald) Stewart of Castleton, Joan Norwood of Mercersburg, PA, Frieda Dotson of Sunnyland, and Patricia (Vic) Edwards of Orlando, FL; three brothers, Eugene (Rose) Smith of Debary, FL, Edward (Marie) Smith of Toulon, and Thomas Smith of Gatewood, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, David, Wayne, and Marvin Smith; and three sisters, Kathyleen Smith, Linda Horsley, and Diana Belcher.
Ronnie worked as an assembler for Caterpillar Inc. and was a member of UAW Local 974. He was a member of Wyoming Nazarene Church, where he was a pillar of the church community. He helped on numerous church projects, was a member of the Men’s Fellowship and a board member. He loved to work on cars and mow grass. He was also a father figure to many of his nieces and nephews.
His funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 4, 2019 at the Wyoming Nazarene Church. Pastor Tammy Shane officiated. Visitation was from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the church. An additional visitation took place one hour prior to the service, also at the church. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Wyoming.
