Marvin R. Donsbach

PRINCEVILLE – Marvin Richard Donsbach, 67, of Princeville, passed away at 1:42 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Marvin was born March 7, 1952, to Carl J. and Estelle I (Hoene) Donsbach (both deceased). They raised him on the Debord farm west of Princeville along with his five siblings, Ken (Diana), Jerry (deceased), Don (Patti), Diann (Rick Bush), and Cheryl (Oneill). He had fond memories and entertaining stories of life on the farm with family and friends and remained a red hankie carrying country kid all his life.
He met a cute waitress, Linda Wagher, at Jimal’s Steakhouse in Toulon, Ill., and made her his wife on Oct. 19, 1974. They weathered the ups and downs of life for nearly 45 years and grew more in love each year, realizing that the true meaning of love is to prefer the other over oneself.
They were blessed with two children, Michelle (Bob Conrad), Princeville and Timothy (Regina), Edwardsville, who in turn gave them the greatest joys of life – five grandchildren, Andrew Bennett (deceased), Grace and Faith Conrad and Estelle and Alison Donsbach.
Marv lived the principle of asking God for the serenity to accept the things he could not change, and prayed for the courage to change what he could and for the God-given wisdom to know the difference. He grew to be a man of integrity, and honesty, with strong, old-fashion values, high principles, a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. He lived his life before God and was a fair-minded, kind-hearted, faith-filled man, who loved life and looked forward to heaven.
He loved the beauty of God’s creation and enjoyed anything outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, working with his bird dog, Hershey, and Pheasants Forever. Marv was a steady, reliable, hard-working employee in the FS/Growmark system for over 42 years. He last worked in 2017 for Ag-land FS as an LP service technician.
It was his honor and privilege to serve on the Akron Princeville Fire Department for 32 years and to be a charter member of the Akron Princeville Ambulance. His service there became a part of his nature, someone always wanting to help out wherever possible.
St. Mary of the Woods was his life-long church home. He loved the sacraments and his days as an altar boy and later serving as usher/greeter, Eucharistic minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Marvin’s funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at his church. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at Haskell Funeral & Cremation Services in Princeville. A Rosary Service will be at 4 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Cemetery in Princeville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Akron-Princeville Fire Department, Akron-Princeville Ambulance or St. Mary of the Woods Building Fund. Condolences may be left for Marvin’s family on his tribute wall at
In everything Marvin tried his best and prayed to be greeted at the gates of heaven with, “Well done good and faithful servant. Come in and share my joy”. (Mt 23:23)
