GALVA – Jon H. Olmsted, 64, of Martin’s Lodge, Galva, Ill., formerly of Toulon, Ill., passed away at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at OSF Richard L. Owen’s Hospice Home in Peoria.
Jon was born on July 2, 1955, in Galesburg, the son of Rex and Jean (Godsil) Olmsted. He married Wanda Martin on Sept. 20, 1975, at Martin’s Lodge; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Danel (Theresa) Olmsted of Toulon; one daughter, Sarah (Ryan) Hansard of Toulon; six grandchildren, Hailey Montooth, Payton Montooth, Chloe Hatfield, Te`a Olmsted, Cole Merriman, Cooper Hansard, and one grandson on the way; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Smith; and three sisters, Darlyne Johnson (Larry, deceased) of Mesa, Ariz., Patricia (Gary) Jackson of Fisher, Ill., and Becky (Ron) Graves, Tempe, Ariz.. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jim, Joe, and Stanley Olmsted.
Jon retired as a Manufacturing Engineer from Caterpiller, Mossville, Ill., Tech Center in 2013.
Jon enjoyed his time in their timber hunting mushrooms, cutting firewood, relaxing by the pond, sitting around a fire and loved watching all the wildlife. Jon and his wife Wanda also shared a love of photographing the wildlife that inhabited Martin’s Lodge. Jon loved music, singing and had a lovable, quirky and constant sense of humor. He was passionate about his family and was everyone’s friend.
Living a simple life, and loving simple pleasures his wishes in lieu of a conventional funeral were that his family and friends gather at the lodge and enjoy themselves and on Sunday Oct. 6, his wishes were carried out.
Memorial contributions if not intended for family may be made out specifically to the Resource House in Wyoming, The Good Samaritan Fund in Toulon, or the Stark or Henry County Food Pantry.
