Leo R. Fuertges

Bradford – Leo R. Fuertges, 90 of Bradford, Illinois, passed away November 26, 2012 at Kewanee Hospital, Kewanee, Illinois. He was born November 11, 1922 in Bradford to Henry and Adelia (Steimle) Fuertges.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Helen Hickey of Bradford. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Frances Sanders, and three brothers, George, Donatus and Bernard Fuertges.
Leo graduated from Bradford High School in 1940. He was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bradford.   He was a Charter member of Bradford Lions Club. Leo spent his working career in the grocery business in Bradford. First working for his father and uncle at Fuertges Brothers Grocery store and later as co-owner with his brother Bernard “Bummy” of Fuertges Brothers Red Fox Store and finally for its successor, Bradford Red Fox.
Funeral Mass was Friday, November 30, 2012 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bradford at 11 a.m. with Father Vien Van Do officiating. Burial was in the St. John Catholic Cemetery rural Bradford. Visitation was 6-8 Thursday, November 29, 2012 in the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Bradford.
