Wyoming gets ready to GLOW

wyomingAs the restoration of the Paramount Theater building in Wyoming progresses, plans are underway to raise needed funds for the project.
October 18 brings the Ready, Set, GLOW Paramount Theater 5K Family Fun Run/Walk fundraiser to the streets of Wyoming.  The race will start and end at the Paramount Theater.  The event includes much more than just the race, though.  Organizers are planning a fun filled evening for people of all ages.

East Williams street will be closed from the post office to Aldrich Company that evening with food being served starting at 5 p.m.  At 5:30 the lights on the theater marquee will be turned on and then at 6 p.m. the kids will have a bike race down East Williams Street.  The 5K Run/Walk will start at 6:30 p.m. winding through city streets lined with neon balloons, glow sticks and more.  The race will conclude back downtown where more food, music and fun is being planned for the evening.  The P.E.O. ladies will also be holding a bake sale that night.
Registration forms are available at A Few of My Favorite Things, Wyoming City Hall, Better Banks-Wyoming, State Bank of Speer, or the State Bank of Toulon.  The registration fee of $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under includes a shirt (with glow in the dark writing), glow in the dark necklace, glasses, and bracelets.  The children’s fee includes the bike race and the 5K run/walk.   The first male and female to cross the finish line will win an award.
Registration forms must be turned in by October 3.  Registration fees increase by $5 after that date and do not include a t-shirt.  Race packet pick-up will be held on Friday, October 17 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theater.
Those who aren’t participating in the race itself are encouraged to come out and cheer on the participants at the starting line, along the route, and especially back downtown at the finish line.  Organizer Janelle Down said “Everyone is welcome to wear and dress up in as much neon as they want.”
Additional sponsors are still needed for the event.  If your business or organization is interested in becoming a sponsor you can contact Janelle Down at 309-238-6115.  Sponsors of $100 will have their name printed on the back of the t-shirts.  Current sponsors include: Quality Cable, State Bank of Speer, A Few of My Favorite Things, Better Banks, State Bank of Toulon, Morrissey’s, Berchtold Asphalt, and Aldrich Company.  The Spoon River Bowl will also be donating 50 cents for every beer they sell that night.
All money raised during the evening will pay for renovations to the theater, in particular the neon lighting that is being restored.  The event will be held rain or shine.
Many volunteers will be needed during the race, including people to direct runners through the route.  If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information, you can contact Janelle Down at 309-238-6115.
