Morthland appointed executive dean for BHC East Campus

Black Hawk College announced on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016 the appointment of Betsey Morthland to the position of executive dean of East Campus.

Morthland has served as interim executive dean of East Campus since 2015. She joined the college in 2003, serving as a full-time professor in the allied health area for eight years before becoming interim dean of health sciences. She was named dean of health sciences in 2013. Morthland recently completed the Ph.D. program at Trident University, School of Health Sciences.
“Betsey is recognized for her outstanding leadership and dedication to Black Hawk College. She is well-respected and very dedicated to the college,” said Dr. Bettie Truitt, president of Black Hawk College. “We are very pleased to make this a permanent appointment.”

In addition to leading the East Campus, Morthland will serve on the President’s Cabinet (the district-wide leadership team), develop new educational and training programs, and work to grow enrollment.

“I’m excited about this opportunity. While serving as interim executive dean, I’ve gotten to know the East Campus faculty and staff better as well as many members of the area communities.
“We have a lot of opportunities in front of us, and I’m ready to get started,” Morthland said.

Truitt met with members of the search committee Feb. 5 to discuss the hiring process. The result of that meeting was a unanimous recommendation to appoint Morthland to the permanent position effective immediately.

In an e-mail to employees, Truitt thanked the search committee members for their efforts.
“The committee and I believe Betsey is the best one to continue the high-quality instruction and contributions to the community that the East Campus is known for,” Truitt said.
