A Geneseo man charged in Stark County with two counts of allegedly stealing two vehicles last August appeared Friday in Stark’s Circuit Court. His case was continued until May 13 for another pre-trial appearance before his June 6 trial.

Carmon Joseph Castillo, 32, currently faces those Stark County charges, plus Henry County methamphetamine charges, as well. It was disclosed in open court Friday that his Stark cases may be combined with the Henry County charges and would be heard in Henry County.

Last August 2, Castillo allegedly stole a Harley Davidson motorcycle in Henry County and entered Stark County. He abandoned the vehicle in a rural West Jersey cornfield after realizing he was being followed by the motorcycle’s owner.

He walked into West Jersey and allegedly stole a Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Charles Rice. The truck was eventually recovered in Bellevue, Iowa. It had been sold at auction by a Rock Island area dealership. Castillo allegedly sold the truck to that dealership.

Castillo has pled not guilty to the charges and remains incarcerated at the Henry County jail in Cambridge. He was transferred months ago from Stark’s jail to Henry County to face charges in that county.

If convicted in Stark County, Castillo could receive a maximum sentence of three to seven years in prison, a $25,000 fine and two years of parole. The minimum sentence is 30 months of probation or court supervision.

Castillo’s troubles with the law did not end with the Henry and Stark cases. He faced additional charges in Grundy County for driving under the influence and improper lane usage for which he pled guilty.

Castillo has a long history of past offenses he has been found guilty of dating at least to 2003. He also has been found guilty of theft in Rock Island County in January of this year.

Other charges Castillo has faced in the past are battery, aggravated battery of a senior citizen, criminal trespass, home invasion with injury, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also has a long list of traffic violation convictions.
