Toulon Lions Club held their October meeting at Connie’s Country Kitchen with great hot soups, chicken salad sandwiches, and apple crisp with ice cream. Highlights of the meeting were income from the fall festival and harvest sale to support $1,000 in scholarships for the coming year, dictionaries for the fourth graders with the Wyoming Lions, and expenses related to the new Lions trailer. Candy Day was held on October 14.
An effort to reach out to high school students this year is being made to expand the awareness and opportunity to do community service with our projects. Rachel Adair is our first student ambassador welcomed at this month’s meeting and sponsored by her grandfather Lion Don Schmidt. Any high school student or parent can contact Lions Bob Mueller, Tim Wagner or Al Curry for details. Matt Nagode, sponsored by Lion Roger Hawk, was also inducted by Lion Jim Graves.
Following our theme of “International Lionism” a program was given last month by Lion Jim Nowlan on Cuba and this month by Jan Curry on her journey to Barcelona with daughter Lyn.
Next month’s meeting will be held Thursday, November 17 at the Toulon Congregational Church with appetizers at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Al Harmon will share his journey to the Holy Land, appropriate for the coming holiday season. The evening is combined with the Wyoming Lions and guests for our annual event to honor wives or guests.
