Toulon’s tax levy passed

toulonThe Toulon City Council struggled to reach a quorum last Thursday night in their special meeting and hearing for the tax levy increase. But when they finally did, the matter passed.
Only councilmen Larry Hollis, Phil Albertson and Don Turnbull were present along with Mayor Rick Collins, who voted to make a quorum on the normally seven person council.
All four that were present voted for the increase.
The levy passed is a 7.5141% increase in the amount the city requested last year, which represents almost $10,000 additional dollars, mainly for funds that are already suffering and insufficiently funded.
Unlike the county board that sets a rate and then collects the amount whatever it may be, local municipalities and governing districts set dollar amounts and the rates are adjusted to acquire those exact amounts.
